Question 11 Recommended tools for social media engagement in libraries

The two Social Media Tools I think would be of most benefit to a library are:

Facebook:

Using Facebook can be an effective way for academic libraries to connect with their user community.
By posting updates on Facebook, libraries can inform their users about the library’s programmes and services. They can invite students to attend training sessions, post practical information about the library’s opening times, link to new and existing print and online resources, and update the university community about any new developments. 'Followers' can engage with the library by commenting on posts and sharing them with their friends.

LinkedIn:

STRENGTHEN AND PROMOTE COLLABORATION

The projects, endorsements and publications sections are particularly valuable as they promote and celebrate networking and collaboration as we are encouraged to cite the  involvement and contribution of colleagues, strengthening the linkages we make, or have already made, with other professionals.

CURRENT AWARENESS

The new homepage, LinkedIn Today, offers current awareness on social media, technology development and many other apsects relevant to librarianship to help us keep engaged. There are also hugely valuable contributions from many ‘thought leaders’. I’d like to see more information-related stories but I think this depends on more librarians sharing within LinkedIn
